National Education Policy 2020

This year Indian Govt. has put forward a new national education policy. First education policy was created in year 1968. This New education policy is created after 34 years as Last education policy was formed in year 1986. Hence, till now indian had three education policies.It took more than 5 years to formulate this policy. Almost 2 lakh inputs were collected for this policy. We are trying to summarize the policy in easy language.

As per this new NEP: –

  • HRD Ministry will be renamed to Education ministry.
  • HRD Minister will now be Education Minister.
  • Age group for right to education is modified from 6-14 to 3-18 years.
  • This education policy will be in effect from 2021-22 academic year.

Education till class 12th:-

Educational till 12th will no longer be in the format of 10+2. It will now be 5+3+3+4 format.

Till class 5: –

Schooling till class 5th will be foundation stage. Its curriculum will be prepared by NCERT. It will be consisting of 3 years of Pre-Primary (this is mainly targeted for govt schools), Class 1 and Class 2.

class 3 to 5: –

Till will focus on preparing kids for future course and they will be introduced to the subjects like Maths, Science, Social Sciences, Moral science, Arts etc.

Class 6 to 8: –

It will be considered as Middle stage. In this stage students will have to go through the set courses.

Class 9 to 12: –

It will be the final stage of the foundation set in class 6 to 8. In this stage student will be prepared for specific subject, this stage is to work on the aptitude and comprehension of students to prepare for larger goals.
This policy is also aimed at elimination stream system. For example: if arts student wants to learn a chemistry, physics or Math or vice-versa, that will be allowed. In order to make it work probably a pool of subjects will
be created and student will have to pick and choose subjects from that pools.

Miscellaneous policy highlights till class 12: –

  • Till class 5 student will be able to study in their native language like Marathi, Telugu, Tamil etc. English will be just like any other subject.
  • Students will be given an option to learn computer coding from class 6th.
  • Students will also be proved the opportunity of internship form class 6th.
  • Class 9th to 12th will be semester based. i.e. two semesters in a year.
  • Board exams will be focused on reducing the stress and assessment will more holistic not just a number game.

Changes in College admissions: –

-Students will have to go through Common aptitude test. Number obtained in this test will be cumulatively considered with marks obtained by the students in class 12th board exams.
-Dropouts in collage are also accommodated in this policy. Like if someone drops out after completing first year it will be considered as certificate course, if someone drops out after second year it will be considered as diploma,
if student completes three year than bachelor’s degree will awarded. If a student completes four year than a Reacher certificate and bachelor’s degree will be awarded. (this system is called as multi-entry and multi-exit).

Academic Bank of Credit: –

If aspirants want to get through multiple courses at a time then they will be allowed to do so. They can exit or enter any course any time and based on their entry and exit their scores across the courses will be saved in this
bank. this credit will be added into the final course aspirants wish to complete. This entire system will be digital.
